In The Women, Mary Haines, a doting wife and loving mother, is surrounded by a group of catty women who enjoy nothing more than the thrill of gossip. Those friends take delight in telling Mary that her husband Stephen is having an affair with a shop girl and spreading the news to gossip columnists. Mary divorces Stephen, but when she hears a new piece of gossip, she sets about trying to win back her man. Performances dates for “The Women” are January 29-31 and February 4-7. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30pm. Sunday performances begin at 2:30pm. Ticket prices range from $10 to $25 per person. February 4 is Theatre Thursday and all tickets are half price. A $1 handling fee is added to all tickets sold. The Fish House and its sister restaurant, Atlas Oyster House, are offering another series of cooking symposiums to preserve the art and tradition of fine Southern cooking, passing on our Southern traditions one recipe at a time. The series will take place during the fall and winter months on the enclosed outdoor Deck Bar located behind the Fish House restaurant. Fish House and Atlas chefs will teach classes. They will demonstrate traditional Southern cooking methods and suggest ways to modernize each recipe without losing its Southern roots." Classes are limited to first come, first served. There is also a happy hour available on the Deck Bar for guests to enjoy before and during the class. Last year's classes were attended by hundreds of local Southern cooking enthusiasts. Although the classes are free, class members are encouraged, but not obligated, to make a donation to the series' selected charity. Last year's charity was the Gulf Coast Kid's House. He has been singing songs and telling stories in the American tradition for over forty years. Sparky accompanies himself on guitar, banjo and spoons. He has released over fourteen recordings. Rhonda adds sweet sounding vocal harmonies, a mean, gutsy blues harmonica, old time banjo and rhythmic bones to their music. The duo will be performing at the Belmont Arts and Cultural Center beginning at 7 pm on Saturday, February 13. Admission is $5 and all proceeds benefit the Belmont Youth Band.
