Palafox Market Thrives!
On Saturday mornings, crowds ranging from 1,000-2,500 people stroll through Martin Luther King Plaza to take in the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of fresh produce, baked goods, fine arts and antiques offered by local vendors. Regular patrons chat with familiar vendors while first-time visitors and tourists browse the market place.
Over 40 vendors set up shop at Palafox Market every Saturday, and one June weekend set the 2010 record with 54 vendors. If this trend continues, Palafox Market will become the largest farmers market in the three-county region in just its third year, a testament to the vendors and patrons who come out every week to participate.
“Palafox Market is a great extension to my existing business. I love that I can keep in touch with my customers and answer their gardening and herb questions,” said Lorene AdairJipson, owner of Lorene Adair’s Herbs. “It’s great seeing local people coming out to support local businesses in such a fun environment.”
Downtown itself is also benefitting from the bump in traffic, helping to make Saturdays one of the better sales days for shops and restaurants.
